Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between home hospice and acute home hospitalisation?

Acute home hospitalisation focuses on treating an acute medical condition that is suitable for an alternative to hospital admission. Home hospice focuses on palliative care, symptom relief and quality of life, according to the patient’s condition.

Is palliative care only for the last days of life?

Not necessarily. Palliative care focuses on symptom relief and quality of life and can be relevant at different stages of an advanced illness, depending on the condition and the goals of care.

Can pain be treated at home?

Managing pain and symptoms is a central part of palliative care, in accordance with the assessment and the instructions of the medical team.

Does the team also guide the family?

Yes. Guiding family members and the primary caregiver is an important part of care at home, according to the patient’s needs.

Is it possible to move from hospital to continued palliative care at home?

When the patient is suitable for this setting and the necessary conditions are in place, continued care at home can be planned in coordination with the treating providers.
